Webb School of Construction are fortunate to host distinguished scholars and experts from other universities and industry from time to time. When the opportunity arises, ACE collaborates with these experts to develop specialty programs of interest to our industry. Tribal Built Environments: Lessons and Strategies in Planning, Designing and Construction

Based on recent interviews with architects, planners, owner’s representatives and construction managers working in Indian Country, this session will highlight lessons and strategies for working in tribal communities. Five critical areas will be discussed: Legal, Technical, Relationships, Financial and Marketing.

Participants will possess the knowledge and skills to effectively:

  • Understand tribal decision-making structures and the impact on design and construction
  • Recognize the diversity of design drivers in Indian Country
  • Understand the impact of tribal sovereignty, including TERO, on design and construction
  • Identify challenges unique to tribal communities including land status and infrastructure
